Verdun is a WWI first person shooter originally only available on PC but recently ported over to the PS4 and available only as a digital download from the PSN store.
Although there is a limited single player component the game is really all about multiplayer and the main mode, Frontlines, is a tactical battle for territory played on 32 player servers and built around two opposing sides made up of squads of four personnel.
The game encourages squad play and co-operation and rewards players who play as part of a cohesive unit. However, there is nothing to stop you from joining a squad and playing as a lone wolf but you'll probably find things a lot harder. In fact, when you first jump into the game, you'll probably die a lot and run around like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off until you start to learn the ebb and flow of the game and the intricacies of the maps. Those maps, incidentally, are all superbly well done.
If you're in the market for a game like this, you'll love it. Do not expect a CoD or Battlefield type of experience though. Verdun ploughs its own furrow as far as World War 1 games go and it can be immensely enjoyable. The PS4 servers are not as heavily populated as you might hope but jumping between EU and US regions at certain times, you can usually find a game to get into.
Hopefully the player base on PS4 will grow - at it's bargain basement price it's certainly well worth a buy.
